How to Jailbreak Apple TV 2G

Step 1:

Download PwnageTool 4.1.2 from http://jailbreakandunlock.squarespace.com/1109285/PwnageTool_4.1.2.dmg and Apple TV 2G firmware from from http://jailbreakandunlock.squarespace.com/1109285/AppleTV21_4.1_8M89_Restore.ipsw

Step 2:

Run PwnageTool.Select Apple TV and click Continue.After you have clicked next and gone through the redundant prompts,PwnageTool will create an ipsw.Now,proceed to Step 3.

Step 3:

Unplug the power cable and then press the Menu and Play button for 10 seconds until it says release.This process basically puts the Apple TV 2G in DFU mode like the iPhone.

Step 4:

A message should appear saying the process was successful and so now you can open iTunes if it hasn't opened.You'll need to restore to the custom firmware by holding "option" and clicking restore.The process will jailbreak your device in less than 2 minutes or at least in less time than an iPhone.

Warnings

• Do not attempt to use a different firmware!
• Do not interrupt the process when iTunes is configuring the ipsw.

Tips

• Follow the chronilogical steps exactly as they appear when putting the device in DFU mode.Doing so will make sure the process is successful.
• Make sure you downloaded the Apple TV 2G firmware and PwnageTool 4.1.2.If you don't download the right PwnageTool the jailbreak won't work.The 4.1.2 version of PwnageTool is the only jailbreak available for Apple TV 2G.
• At this point in time there is only a Mac jailbreak for Apple TV 2G.If you're tired of not being able to run Mac programs you should buy one or go to Hackintosh to learn how to run Mac OSX on a PC.I've seen it and it works perfectly.
